Hello from the Golf Shop. October is here, and the season is fast approaching. Summer maintenance is scheduled to be completed shortly, with a tentative opening date for both courses of Monday, October 14.
Registration is currently open for Men’s & Ladies’ Golf Leagues. Everyone, with an established handicap in our GHIN system, has received an email with registration links for the MGA, WGA and LNHGA leagues. If you experience any issues getting registered, please contact us. The registration links will close at October 31. After that, members can sign up in the Golf Shop.
A sub-committee of the Golf committee met this summer to review our current handicap stroke allocation from both men’s and ladies’ tees. There was much debate last year as we instituted the new stroke allocations as recommended by the FSGA after our courses were re-rated. Extensive data was collected from Golf Genius which gave us hole-by-hole scoring from Men’s & Ladies league play. This was helpful information which allowed for actual score ranking comparison to the FSGA data. As a result, we have made some changes to the ranking of holes on both courses for ladies and the men. The new rankings will officially go into effect November 1st when our new scorecards arrive, and will coincide with the start of league play.
Another new item on the scorecard will be the addition of a Red/Black combo tee. This combo tee will have a course rating and slope for both men and women. We’re happy about this additional tee. which gives our members another option to enjoy the game. This is all part of a focus this season on members playing from the yardage that’s appropriate for their game. Pace of play is crucial when we have such a variety of skill level golfers and play as many rounds as we do daily. Promoting golfers to play their appropriate tees will help golfers have more fun and play faster.
A few event reminders for the upcoming months. Sign up is still available on Chelsea for the 9th Annual HPVA Golf Tournament on October 27. Also, registration is still open for the 2024 Ladies Member Guest on November 11. Please contact the Golf Shop for more event details or to get signed up.
