Close to 100 HP men’s tennis players who play in the Lee County age 50 Plus and age 70 Plus respective tennis leagues and their guests, attended the Men’s Year End Tennis Party held April 1 in the Palms Dining Room.
HP had three teams in age 50 Plus league and three teams in the age 70 Plus league. There are several divisions in each league. HP had two teams in the age 70 Plus league who won championships.

The Heritage Palms I team, captained by Gary Rodgers, won their Gold division. Heritage Palms II team, captained by Bob Lathrop, was victorious in their Brass division.
A moment of silence was held for several tennis players who passed away in the last two years: Gwen Berestecki, Angelo Scaccia, Ron Hanson, Rich Magno, Greg Gray, Rich McCarthy, Ray Rhoton, John Deresky, and Mark Wood.
A scrumptious buffet, consisting of prime rib, lamb, garlic cream chicken, shrimp scampi, hors d’oeuvres and a tennis-themed marble cake, was enjoyed by the attendees.
Chad Dyer, Director of Tennis and Pickleball, spoke about our four new pickleball courts and the new tennis court, as well as other enhancements coming this summer.
Each captain spoke about, and thanked, their respective teams. In addition to Gary and Bob, the other captains who spoke were Lou Bottitta, Ron Assisse, Ted Corcoran, and I.
I co-chaired the event with Ted Corcoran, who supplied the Bose background music. We were ably assisted by Bob and Joyce Lathrop, and Whitey and Jo Ann Sornat, who checked in the attendees.
