Staying Connected

Lisa Schneck has penned a very important Wellness article titled A Remedy for Loneliness…Extend Your Life by Making Friends, which begins on page 17.In it she sitessocial isolation as the most significant predictor of both dementia and premature death.

As a result, in May, HP’s Wellness Programs will be devoted to building connections here at Heritage Palms!

It’s a common belief that doing puzzles, word games, and other brain-stimulating activities can stave off cognitive decline. That said, please know our own HP Library, located on the 2nd floor of the Activity Center, has a TON of jigsaw puzzles for you to enjoy (as well as many, many books!). They range from 300 pieces up to 2000, with a wide variety of subjects. As you enter the library, just look in the right-hand cabinets in the center credenza!

As they say, timing is everything. Luckily, the Heritage Palms 2025 Golf Championship was held the weekend of April 5 and 6, right before my BTP deadline. See both the Club Champions low gross winners and the Presidents Cup low net winners starting on page X. This issue also contains the 2025 Tennis Doubles Champions (see Spring Doubles Challenge on page X). It also includes a listing of the Ladies 9-Hole League 2025 champions (see LNHGA News on page X). What missed the cut are the listing of the 18-Hole WGA League 2025 champions. Have no fear, as these champions will be featured in the June BTP!

My husband, Bob, and I “run” HP’s Duplicate Bridge game every Wednesday evening. A friend of mine was asking if we knew anyone who would teach bridge to interested members. I mentioned the ACBL website offers tutorials – at no cost! Go to: https://www.acbl.org/learn/ to see their offerings. From “The Basics” to “Lessons” to various “Learning Tools.” Check it out!

It bears repeating: please know there’s an option for you to download this issue (or any prior issue) of BTP as a PDF (Adobe) for viewing, rather than using a web browser. Simply click the downward arrow icon (#3 below) to download the magazine as a PDF on your laptop, iPad, or cell phone. The PDF version shows one page at a time (vs the two pages you see side by side “on line”). Plus, if you download the issue, you can print any page you like, and also store any current or prior issue on your laptop. It’s easy-peasy!

Should you have an article to submit for the June issue, my deadline is May 3. Post Cards are welcome! Please email to [email protected].
